The countryside around is gentle hills, farmland and some forest, ideal for casual walks. The house is in a village not far from Rottweil but public transport is very limited, a couple of buses a day. We would have breakfast all together then walk his two dogs Dusty and Emma, both of whom are lovely, friendly, cuddly, beautiful and fun, we really enjoyed our afternoon adventures with those two. We were more like helpful couchsurfers, which Lothar also hosts, usually for shorter periods. It was so relaxing and really very little work, but we can't guarantee it is representative of every stay. Our stay coincided with his wife's work trip away, so we helped around the house with cooking, cleaning and walking the dogs. We stayed with Lothar for about 10 days last October and it couldn't have been nicer! He accepted us last minute, which was so useful for us, and picked us up from Rottweil railway station his house (which he built himself!) is a stunning log cabin and staying there is a totally luxurious surprise.
