![]() ![]() and while most of these decks have an answer or two to platinum emperion basically none of them have the tools to fight through a platinum emperion backed up by a couple counterspells. Honestly in modern you basically never run into counter wars anymore considering that twin was the only really heavy blue based deck and it faded, there’s no current good cryptic deck. ![]() considering if forces 3 removal spells as well and costs less, and acts as an evasive beater that protects your snapcasters when you don’t have platinum emperion. considering padeem does nothing when you don’t have platinum emperion and even when you do have platinum emperion all it does is force them to have another removal spell, honestly if you really wanted to have a way to protect emperion in creature form, kira great glass spinner is almost strictly better. Out of these decks the only one where playing a padeem *might* be better then just having negate is RG tron and thats not even certain. when you look at the top decks in modern right now you have: but its also a format where their ability to deal with a turn 4 emperion is to kill you before you play it. Honesty modern isn’t really a format where people can deal with a 4 mana platinum emperion very well. If you turn 4 a padeem in modern you will probably die. Padeem is merely insurance that forces your opponent to make a choice, and both are fairly bad spots to be in. And unless they’re going deep on removal, you’re going to be fine outside of a lucky top deck. Unless your opponent is running Snapcaster Mages, that’s two less pieces of removal to worry about. Now you’re in a better potisition to start swinging with the Emperion because your opponent has wasted two removal or counterspells. Dispel/Spell Pierce their counter/removal spell. That’s one less removal spell to worry about. Most times, they’re going to get rid of her first because they know they’ll have to. They can pitch their removal spell on Padeem, or keep it until they have two removal spells to get both her and the Emperion. You play Padeem (let’s assume as your turn 4 play, tapping out). Delaying casting madcap a turn to cast padeem can actually mean losing.Īnd as a control deck, tapping out for your win con is just as dangerous. If I don’t have draws that can interact by countering and or killing my opponent’s threats I will die before I can cast polymorph on turn 4. I play esper polymorph control which cheats out an Emrakul using polymorph (4 mana sorcery). Four mana is just a lot in the modern meta. If your opponent doesn’t have an answer, or can’t find one very quickly they lose. Padeem also has the benefit of drawing you a card should Emperion survive until your upkeep, which, if this is a control deck, something you might want.Įmperion isn’t an infinite combo or something else that wins on the spot but it is in of itself a win condition. Madcapping into Emperion doesn’t really win you the game the turn you do it, either. Turn aside, dispel, spell pierce, etc are much better. Padeem is way too expensive in modern for a card that isn’t a win condition. I’m not as familiar with Modern as I should be.īut yeah, I mainly brought up Padeem as insurance for keeping the Emperion on the field as well as another body to swing or block with should the need arise. A suggestion might be apostle’s blessing but Padeem isn’t the best option since you don’t run any other artifacts.Īh, I was confusing it with Surgical Extraction, and even then they would have to thoughtseize it out of you. Lost legacy doesn’t hit artifacts and one thing to note is that a lot of decks do run vaporsnag which is basically a kill spell for platinum emperion. I’m not a fan of Snapcaster Beats, but Padeem will survive Anger of the Gods just fine whereas Snapcaster and Young Pyromancer (as well as the tokens it makes) will not. Which means you’re going to need beaters. My thought process was that if someone Lost Legacy’s your Platinum Emperion, that makes 4 dead cards in your deck with Madcap. Madcap Experiment is just a one card combo, and the only removal that people play in Modern that even hits it are Terminate and Path to Exile. I actually really doubt Padeem is better than Spell Pierce in this list. Without it, you’re a removal spell away from all of your work amounting to nothing. I’m personally not a fan of Madcap, but, I think Padeem NEEDS to be in this deck. Is the combo of Madcap Experiment and Platinum Emperion good enough to revive Blue Moon in Modern? Let’s see! Instant Deck Tech: Madcap Moon (Modern).
